Required as soon as possible, a Family Support Worker with an interest in working with pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviours.
Our Family Support Worker will have experience of being part of a team that works with children and young people and their families, (ideally children with additional needs). Administration and office experience would also be valuable, together with outstanding interpersonal skills and a positive, solution focused attitude. An empathetic but proactive approach is essential, and you must be ready to take the lead and use your initiative. As the role may require some travel across the city, a full UK driving licence will be beneficial.
The successful candidate will support students and families with complex needs where a range of factors are contributing to poor attendance at school and indicating that students are at risk of poor outcomes. You will be responsible for promoting positive partnerships between home, school and our wider community.
Mary Astell Academy is an alternative provision academy established in September 2018. Based in the West End of Newcastle, the academy works with young people aged 11 to 16 who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. We provide access to a full-time, broad and balanced education appropriate to pupils’ potential and educational needs and encourage their reintegration back into a mainstream school setting wherever possible.
Our young people are also able to access a wide range of therapeutic interventions to support them in recognising and understanding triggers for their behaviours and explore strategies that support them in dealing with these. We recognise that ACEs and traumatic experiences have often impacted upon the lives of our young people and that for many of them not only have they survived but have shown great strength in doing so. At Mary Astell we seek to restore them and help individuals return to a path towards happy and fulfilling adult lives.
